Belarus (bbabo.net), - Refusal of membership in the Eurasian Economic Union would be unprofitable for Armenia, this is contrary to its interests, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said in an interview with RIA Novosti published today, February 8.
According to him, cooperation within the EAEU is effective for Armenia; over the past few years, the country has become a leader within the union in such indicators as GDP growth rates, investments in fixed assets, the volume of construction work performed, etc.
“All this was largely made possible thanks to the single market within the union, freedom of movement of labor resources, simplicity of the procedure for opening enterprises, preferential terms for energy supplies, and so on. Thus, from an economic point of view, membership in the union is certainly beneficial for Yerevan, and refusal from it, in our opinion, would be contrary to the interests of the country,” the senior diplomat noted.
The agency’s interlocutor emphasized that the priorities previously voiced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan “are in tune with our approaches in the field of integration construction” and Moscow is committed to productive cooperation with Yerevan.
Let us remind you that from January 1, 2024, Armenia assumed the chairmanship of the bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union. Throughout the year, the republic will chair the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Nikol Pashinyan addressed the heads of the EAEU member states on January 16 on the occasion of Armenia’s chairmanship in the union’s bodies and outlined the main priorities.
