USA (bbabo.net), - The American television channel CNN disseminated information that Russia is actively developing space nuclear weapons for use in low-Earth orbit against satellites.

The publication refers to several sources from American intelligence agencies. They expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that this information was leaked to the press, since this revealed its original source to Russian counterintelligence.

The experts interviewed by the channel also spoke about the consequences of using nuclear weapons against satellites in space. According to them, as a result, the satellites that are responsible for mobile and Internet communications may fail.

In addition, such an impact will lead to clogging of the Earth's orbit, and a significant part of it will become unsuitable for further placement of satellites due to dense clouds of debris.

At the same time, experts admit that the weapon being developed, if used, will create an electromagnetic wave that will disable private satellites - for example, the entire Starlink satellite network of SpaceX.

The TV channel recalls that it is this network that is actively used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in battles with the Russian army. It is noted that the concept of “orbital war” itself is not new and “dates back to the end of the Cold War.”
