Central Military District commander calls bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan a shield against terrorists

The commander of the Central Military District (CVD), Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, called the Russian military bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan a shield against terrorists for the CSTO alliance, Interfax reports.

“This is a kind of coalition shield and a significant deterrent for terrorists and extremists in the territories of neighboring states,” Lapin said.

According to him, these military bases will take the first blow in case of an emergency.

“Russian military bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, in fact, our“ combat vanguard ”in the southern direction, is the most important component of the CSTO Collective Forces in the Central Asian region. That is why close attention is paid to their combat readiness, rearmament and infrastructure development, ”Lapin said.

The commander of the Central Military District noted that all Russian bases abroad are staffed only with experienced officers and contract servicemen.

The 201st Russian military base operates in Tajikistan, and the Kant airbase in Kyrgyzstan.

Earlier it became known why Moscow equipped the 201st Russian base in Tajikistan with T-72B3M tanks.
