Russia - Rare documents and photos of the Central Telegraph will become exhibits of the Polytech

Russia (bbabo.net), - Rare photographs, archival documents, personal diaries and teletypes stored in the building of the Central Telegraph on Tverskaya will become exhibits of the Polytechnic Museum.

Artifacts reflect different periods of the life of the Central Telegraph, the development of telecommunications and telecommunications in Russia. All this was collected for years by telegraph employees, and later by Rostelecom. As a result, an impressive collection has accumulated, numbering more than one thousand artifacts. Diplomas, photographs, communications, the first telegraphs, teletypes of a later time ...

They were kept in a building on Tverskaya. With the change of ownership, all items were numbered, packed and transported to another location. Now they are being studied by museum staff. “I hope we will have a lot of finds and discoveries of interest not only to specialists, but also to a wide audience,” said Elena Pronicheva, general director of the Polytechnic Museum. “We very much hope that next year, when the museum will celebrate its 150th anniversary , our collection will be replenished with a whole series of new items and exhibits. "

Some of them were shown to reporters yesterday. According to Roman Artemenko, curator of the Polytech funds for the sections "Communication", "Radio Engineering", "Information Storage" and "Automation", the personal files of telegraph operators of 1877-1926 are especially interesting. The telegraph workers, he notes, were educated people. They had to take literacy tests in two languages. The collection contains a selection of numbers of "Soviet Telegraphist", a film with rare newsreel footage.

But a thick reference book of the late 19th century comes across. Here everything - from the history of the development of the telegraph to news, at that time fresh. For example, from a book with pages that turned yellow from time to time, and she is already 123 years old, you can find out that in 1898 the first telephone line opened between St. Petersburg and Moscow. Old photographs are no less important witnesses to history. On some - people who worked in the telegraph, and on others - equipment, technical rooms and ceremonial interiors. The field telephone from 1931 is well preserved. Offhand pulls about six pounds. At the front during the Great Patriotic War, in the opinion of museum workers, he was unlikely to have been, most likely he was in the reserve, that is, at any moment he could go to the rescue of signalmen.

It is very problematic to bring some exhibits to show to journalists, Artemenko admits. There are teletypes weighing 70 kilograms. And rare telephone exchanges - and two centners. "The machines are not lightweight because they were designed for years of work," he says. As Marina Rudneva, chairman of the board of directors of Vos hod, said, after the assessment, the items will remain in storage at the Polytech and will be exhibited at its sites. It will be possible to see some of the exhibits in the building of the telegraph office itself, but already in 2024. It is by this time that it is planned to complete its restoration.
