The parties also exchanged views on current issues of interaction and discussed upcoming events within the SCO.

The day before, in an interview, Nurlan Ermekbaev said that there were all grounds for Belarus to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the near future.

“We all hope, and there is every reason for this, that in the near future the Republic of Belarus will become a full-fledged member state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Although Belarus is not new to the SCO, it has been an observer state for a long time, and during this time it has proven itself probably no less active than the member states of the organization, making various good proposals and initiatives. Therefore, all SCO member states unanimously supported the desire of the Republic of Belarus to act as a full member," the SCO Deputy Secretary General emphasized.

He noted that Belarus very quickly and effectively completed all the necessary procedures and acceded to all international treaties operating within the SCO. On the other hand, by March all member states of the organization had completed the procedures necessary to finalize the accession procedure. This is expected to happen this summer at the next SCO summit in Astana.
