Five-year mountain development

The Kyrgyz initiative has found support in the UN. The United Nations has declared 2022 the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development. The corresponding resolution was adopted at the plenary meeting of the 76th session of the General Assembly of the organization. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic hopes that this will help the official Bishkek achieve approval of another of his proposals.

- Over the next year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic will promote the initiative of the republic on the adoption by the UN of the "Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions" for the period 2023-2027, ”the Information Department of the Foreign Ministry said. According to him, the initiative to declare the International Year of Sustainable Mountain Development was announced at the UN site by the head of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov - at the general debate of the 76th session of the General Assembly of the organization back in September.

The adopted resolution invites the member states and organizations of the UN system, other international projects and stakeholders, including civil associations, business and scientific and educational communities, to conduct a global information campaign on the importance of preserving mountain ecosystems.

In the outgoing year, the UN is adopting the third resolution, initiated by Kyrgyzstan and dedicated to the development of mountain regions. All of them, in one way or another, are devoted to the protection of nature and the development of the economy of territories adjacent to glaciers and areas where large river flows are formed.
