“They gave me a toy, then they took it away”: the Russian team was cynically robbed of its medal by the IOC

The International Skyrunning Federation (running in mountainous terrain at an altitude above 2000 meters above sea level) deprived the Russian team of team bronze at the 2024 Winter World Championships, the Russian Mountaineering Federation reported.

Such a vile decision was made in connection with the recommendations of the IOC to prevent teams of athletes from Russia and Belarus from participating in international competitions.

Russia took third place in the overall standings, but after the team result was annulled, it dropped to fourth, behind Spain. The individual results of the Russians remained unchanged.

Vice-President of the Russian Mountaineering Federation and head coach of the national team Pavel Shabalin said that he understands the ISF’s decision to comply with the IOC’s demands:

“We received a letter from the international federation stating that they are forced to submit to the demands of the International Olympic Committee. Team competitions are indeed prohibited, only individual athletes are allowed. They apologize and hope that things will change in the near future.”

When asked by a journalist how he personally reacted to the shameful situation, Shabalin replied:

“How can a person who understands what is happening around react to this? The International Federation is forced to comply. And the IOC is forced to monitor the implementation of its decisions. We did not know that the results of the team competitions would be summed up. We only knew that our athletes would perform. They wrote that they were forced to take the bronze medal and give it to the Spanish team. They gave me a toy, then took it away. It's their jamb."

Yeah. Another slap in the face of Russian sports. But our officials are not discouraged. Life, they say, goes on, Paris beckons with its lights.

So Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko believes that Russian athletes should go to the 2024 Summer Olympics:

“The conditions created by the International Olympic Committee and international federations are such that almost none of our athletes will be able to go there or qualify. There are quite a few sports where such a possibility remains, and then the national federations and the Russian Olympic Committee will have to make a decision together. If the athletes have the opportunity, then they should probably go.

The Olympics should be assessed by the athletes themselves. If the IOC officially confirms that the conditions under which eligible athletes must denounce the CBO or renounce their homeland are being lifted, then I think there will be no legal obstacles to athletes going to the Olympics.”

And here is what ex-Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov thinks about this:

“Chernyshenko expresses his personal opinion. Those athletes who are selected must make their own decisions about their participation in the Olympics. Neither officials, nor the ROC, nor the government will make a decision. Athletes are adults, they will look at the restrictions from the IOC. Their participation in the Olympics is presented as a sop to our sport. Seeing how humiliating this is all happening, the athletes will make a decision.”

Do you understand, right? The athletes will make their own decisions, come to Paris themselves (with whose money, Zin?), try to perform at the Olympics under the turquoise flag in the vile uniform designed by international officials, with the shameful AIN tag on the back, and return home themselves. May God grant you full health and no incidents. And if they themselves don’t win anything, then so be it, let’s go and forget about it.

But if they manage to win a medal themselves, then in the blink of an eye, or even sooner, they will become proud ambassadors of Russian sports.

They will be dragged to ceremonial receptions, perhaps given a car and handed a telegram, officials, dancing with excitement, will tell journalists that in Paris everyone already knew where the NEUTRAL masters came from and the enemy was again defeated in his own lair.

Like, we firmly believe in sports heroes, this is not the first time we have been without a flag, a column marches beautifully, leaving the whole world behind it...

And in conclusion, a fresh comment from the President of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov. Read carefully:

“Summarizing the statements of the last two days from the IOC, one gets the strong feeling that the leadership of this organization has plunged into a deep looking glass, where cause-and-effect relationships are reversed, black is seen as white, and some kind of parallel world is presented as reality.

Lausanne has been consistently disavowing and neglecting the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter for two years now, practicing illegitimate and inhumane sanctions and prohibitions against Russian and Belarusian athletes, discrimination on the basis of nationality, which contradicts the very essence of Olympism and the unconditional right of athletes to take part in competitions on an equal basis.

The IOC comes up with illegal criteria for non-admission over and over again, and the Charter, according to Thomas Bach, is violated by the Russian Olympic Committee.

From the very beginning, the International Olympic Committee openly chose the side of the political conflict, which in itself contradicts its mission, consistently carries out external political orders to isolate Russian sports, and has now reached the point where it delegates the right to approve candidatures of participants in the Olympic Games from one country to the NOC of another countries. But, according to Lausanne, Russia is engaged in the politicization of sports.

Finally, Thomas Bach states that the restoration of relations between the IOC and Russia depends on the ROC. Are there still people in the world of sports who, thinking adequately, do not understand that the key to solving artificially created contradictions in the Olympic family, which has always been in the hands of Lausanne, has today been transferred to it on the other side of the Atlantic?

The IOC, unfortunately, has lost its autonomy and independence, this is clearly reflected in the mirror of the world. Therefore, all slogans and declarations today are from through the looking glass.”

Here. The key, it turns out, was transferred to the other side of the Atlantic, so you can safely give the Russians a medal, and then take it away, for fun’s sake. If we had the key, our masters would not perform in tights of someone else’s colors, under someone else’s flag, with someone else’s shameful tag on the back...

Brothers, dear ones, maybe you won’t go after all, huh?!
