Armenia responded to Azerbaijan’s reproaches: We are ready to immediately sign a peace treaty

USA (bbabo.net), - The high-level trilateral meeting scheduled for April 5 in Brussels will be dedicated to strengthening cooperation between Armenia and the EU and the United States; it is not and cannot be directed against any third party. Press Secretary of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan stated this in a conversation with Armenpress on the evening of March 27.

The Azerbaijani side, touching on the eve of the upcoming Armenia-EU-US meeting, indicated that it is not inclusive and could also push Yerevan to destabilize the situation in the region.

“With regard to Azerbaijan’s accusations of destabilizing the situation in the region and the unconstructiveness of the Armenian side in the negotiation process, let me once again confirm that Armenia is ready to immediately sign a peace treaty, delimitate the border and open regional communications based on the principles that have already been agreed upon with Azerbaijan. Let me remind you that we are talking about the following three principles:

1) Armenia and Azerbaijan mutually recognize each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity on the basis of the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. This principle was agreed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on October 6, 2022 in Prague through the mediation of French President Emmanuel Macron and the President of the European Council Charles Michel, then confirmed on May 14 and July 15, 2023 in Brussels through the mediation of the President of the European Council Charles Michel;

2) delimitation and demarcation works between the two countries are carried out on the basis of the Alma-Ata Declaration. This principle was agreed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on October 6, 2022 in Prague through the mediation of French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel, then confirmed on May 14 and July 15, 2023 in Brussels through the mediation of European Council President Charles Michel. This means that a new border between Armenia and Azerbaijan should not be created, but those borders that existed de jure within the USSR at the time of the adoption of the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991 should be reproduced on earth. After reproducing the border, the territories de jure belonging to each country should be under the control of that country;

3) unblocking regional communications with respect for the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass, based on the principle of equality and reciprocity. This principle was agreed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on July 15, 2023 in Brussels through the mediation of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. Regarding this issue, the Republic of Armenia has expressed its readiness in the “Crossroads of the World” project, which has received wide recognition from the international community,” noted the representative of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

According to the diplomat, “unfortunately, the Azerbaijani side is delaying and undermining the peace process under various artificial pretexts, including constantly rejecting mediation proposals from the EU and the United States.”

“Instead of complaining about inclusiveness, Azerbaijan may end up accepting proposals for a meeting at the level of foreign ministers in Washington and at the level of heads of state in Brussels. It may also be appropriate to mention Azerbaijan’s ongoing actions, attempts to leave Armenia outside of regional projects, to undermine in every possible way the principle of inclusivity, a striking example of which is the obstruction of Armenia’s participation in the Black Sea Underwater Electric Cable project,” the Republic’s Foreign Ministry noted.

Answering the agency’s question about the expectations of the Armenian side from the Armenia-EU-US meeting, Badalyan indicated that this event is “a valuable opportunity to discuss the bilateral agendas of Armenia-US, Armenia-EU, as well as issues related to Armenia-US-EU relations "

“We look forward to substantive discussions on issues of political dialogue between us, the development of Armenia’s capabilities in the economic and energy spheres, and solutions to the humanitarian problems facing Armenia. The high-level meeting is aimed at developing and deepening existing relations and is not associated with third countries. Allegations that it is directed against anyone are inappropriate, unfounded and far-fetched,” she concluded.

Last Wednesday, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry made critical remarks against the EU and the United States in connection with the meeting of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken scheduled for April 5 in Brussels.
