“This is our newest rocket, which works both at sea and at sea targets, and at ground targets. The tests were carried out successfully, flawlessly. This is a big event in the life of the country and a significant step in improving the security of Russia, in increasing its defense capability, ”the President said.
As Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu previously clarified, serial deliveries of "Zircons" will begin in 2022. He also stressed that as a result of large-scale purposeful work carried out under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the level of modernity in the nuclear triad was brought to the highest rate in the entire history of its existence - 89.1%.
Prior to that, it became known that the Russian nuclear submarine Chelyabinsk would be converted into a carrier of cruise missiles "Zircon" and "Onyx". Work on the modernization of the submarine at the Zvezda Far East plant is scheduled for 2022.
The Russian Zircon rocket currently has no analogues in the world and is capable of carrying out a long aerodynamic flight with maneuvering in dense layers of the atmosphere, using the thrust of its own engine along the entire route. It can reach speeds of up to 10.7 thousand km / h with a maximum range of 1000 km. For comparison, the American Raytheon rocket moves in the upper atmosphere at a speed of about 6.2 thousand km / h.
