According to Šefčović, the main reason is the rise in energy prices, the cost of which in united Europe is 3-4 times higher than in the USA and China. Such costs have already cost the EU economy a trillion euros, affecting not only industry, but also the well-being of households.

“High energy prices, especially gas, which has the biggest impact on electricity prices in Europe, have been the main source of high inflation,” confirmed Maros Šefčović.

Therefore, EU countries are forced to spend “astronomical amounts” to help industrialists and ordinary citizens. Everything “to preserve light and heating.”

“We are talking about a trillion euros that we could have spent on other purposes if we could have avoided this crisis,” says the Vice-President of the European Commission.
