Israel (bbabo.net), - President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky met on April 18 with rabbis and Chabad envoys in Ukraine to congratulate them on the upcoming Passover holiday. The meeting took place on the initiative of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine at the Simcha Jewish school in Kyiv.

The event took place in a spacious shelter built under the school a year and a half ago. Several students gave the president a demonstration Passover Seder and explained to him the meaning of the items on the traditional Passover table.

During the visit, Zelensky said: “Many in Ukraine and Israel will celebrate this Passover, this holiday of freedom, in bomb shelters. Free people should live here and there. We must defeat evil. It is completely absurd that rabbis are forced to meet with me in a school shelter, to celebrate the holiday of freedom. It is a pity that the Jews of Ukraine will be forced to celebrate in shelters, because the Russian enemy does not allow us to breathe from his atrocities."

One of the event participants said that Zelensky drew a parallel between the war in Ukraine and the war in Israel. “I am sorry that the Jews in Israel will have to spend this holiday in tension because of the war and because of the cooperation of Iran and its proxies with Russia. Here and there - the same evil. And the same war for freedom. The fight between light and darkness."

Zelensky expressed admiration for the fact that Chabad envoys in Ukraine did not flee after the start of the war. "Faith gives us strength. Passover is a holiday of freedom. We believe in miracles. Russia wants to destroy us, just as they wanted to destroy the Jewish people in Egypt. But we believe that miracles will happen to Ukraine and Israel."

This past week, Ukraine completed the distribution of holiday parcels to 45 thousand Jewish households. There are now 169 Jewish communities in the country, whereas before the war there were 180.
