USA (bbabo.net), - Moscow should consider France’s nuclear arsenal in inextricable unity with the arsenals of its allies - the United States and Great Britain, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

At the briefing, the diplomat drew attention to the decision of the French side to transfer the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle under the operational control of NATO as part of a mission in the Mediterranean Sea, which will take place from April 26 to May 10, TASS reports.

“Such a decision by Paris once again convinces us that in discussing issues of European security crises and global security issues in general, strategic stability, and arms control, the French nuclear arsenal should be considered in inextricable unity with the American and British ones. This is the conclusion to which President [of France Emmanuel] Macron brought us,” the diplomat noted.

Zakharova recalled that since the time of President Charles de Gaulle, the French nuclear arsenal was considered “one of the pillars of national sovereignty and independent foreign policy of France.”

“In this sense, it is deeply symbolic that the era of Paris’s independence in the international arena ends with the transfer to NATO command of the aircraft carrier, which was named after the founder of the Fifth Republic. Of course, such a decision is the sovereign right of the French leadership, however, it seems to be another clear evidence of the steady erosion of France’s national sovereignty, and in its most important and sensitive dimension, in the field of nuclear deterrence,” the diplomat said.
