This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the report of the Japanese Foreign Ministry on the allegedly “illegal occupation” of the South Kuril Islands, TASS reports.

“Russian sovereignty over these islands is not only undeniable, but in principle it is not a subject for any discussion. No reports or books can change this reality,” the diplomat noted.

Addressing official Tokyo, Zakharova recalled that the Southern Kuril Islands are an integral part of the territory of the Russian Federation on legal international grounds following the results of World War II in accordance with the UN Charter.
