Ukraine urgently imports electricity: they promise to turn off enterprises on April 18

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Ukraine's energy system operator has warned that on April 18 it may introduce power outages for industry throughout the country due to energy shortages. The Ministry of Energy reports that emergency imports were resumed this morning.

“The dispatch center of NEC Ukrenergo reports that on April 18 from 8.00 to 22.00 it may be necessary to apply controlled restrictions on the power supply to industrial consumers (power limitation schedules),” the Ukrainian energy system operator reports.

According to him, shutdowns will be applied evenly to business and industrial enterprises in all regions of Ukraine. They are not used only for critical infrastructure facilities and defense enterprises.

“The need to limit energy supply is a consequence of Russian massive missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian power plants. Due to the cold snap in Ukraine, electricity consumption has increased. There is a power shortage in the energy system,” Ukrenergo said in a statement.

On April 18, the operator reports that there is a shortage of electricity throughout most of the day. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine added that there were no industrial outages in the morning, as emergency imports of electricity from neighboring EU countries began.

“Yesterday, during the evening peak hours, there were emergency supplies of electricity from Romania, Poland and Slovakia. The amount of assistance amounted to less than a percentage of daily electricity consumption. In the morning, emergency assistance from the transmission system operators of these countries is also sought. The forecast volume of attracted electricity will be about 2% of total consumption,” the ministry reports.

At the same time, the hourly import capacity can reach 10-15% of all needs. Ukrenergo explains that up to 1,428 MW per hour will be attracted. So far, permanent shutdowns are being used in the Kharkov region and for industry in Krivoy Rog and the Donetsk region.

As bbabo.net reported, retaliatory strikes by the Russian army on energy facilities in Ukraine have led to the country being completely dependent on nuclear generation - more than 75%. Alternative sources now provide less than a quarter of electricity production. On March 22, 29 and April 11, the Russian army carried out retaliatory strikes on energy facilities. In Kyiv, losses or damage were reported at seven thermal power plants, four thermal power plants and three state district power plants. Their total design capacity is about 16 GW. In Kyiv they called the lost power at 7 GW.
