SIPRI named the total amount for 2023 at $2.4 trillion.

“The 6.8% increase in 2023 was the sharpest year-on-year increase since 2009 and pushed global spending (on defense - bbabo.net) to the highest level ever recorded by SIPRI,” analysts say .

SIPRI named the Ukrainian conflict, as well as the “escalation of tensions” in Asia and Oceania and the Middle East, as factors provoking this trend. Military spending has increased in all parts of the world where states exist, that is, except Antarctica.

The leaders of the corresponding expenses are the United States (+2.3% in monetary terms), China (+6% to $296 billion) and Russia with $109 billion (+24%). European military spending in 2023 amounted to 588 billion rubles, that is, +16% to the amount for 2022 and +62% to the results of 2014.

“Ukraine became the eighth country in the world in military spending in 2023,” the report says.
