Cases of measles are recorded in Belarus

Belarus (bbabo.net), - Cases of measles continue to be recorded in Belarus. This was announced by the head of the immunoprophylaxis department of the epidemiology department of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health of the Ministry of Health of the Republic, Kirill Ignatov.

According to him, last year the incidence of measles increased sharply in the European region - more than 58 thousand people were infected in 41 countries.

“In Belarus, starting from February last year, cases of this disease also continue to be registered. Moreover, the majority of cases in our country are people over 18 years of age. And more than 70% of them are unvaccinated,” he said.

At the same time, Ignatov did not provide exact figures on the number of cases in Belarus. He also said that this year there has been an increase in the incidence of whooping cough in the country. The main contingent of cases are children from 7 to 14 years old. In this regard, the issue of introducing an additional dose of vaccination against whooping cough for six-year-old children into the national vaccination calendar is being discussed.

Let us remind you that the national vaccination calendar of Belarus includes vaccines against 12 infections. According to official statistics, 97-98% of the republic’s population is vaccinated against all major diseases.
