The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Union is ready for sanctions against Russia, which should be a response to a possible escalation of the situation around Ukraine.

According to her, sanctions "with large-scale consequences" could force Russia to respect the EU in the issue of the crisis over Ukraine, given that Moscow wants to conduct a dialogue with Washington, not Brussels.

“They (sanctions - approx.) Are already ready. European countries are united, they act in coordination with the United States and NATO. We are in favor of good relations with Russia, but this depends on its actions. Russia must stop provocations, ”said the head of the European Commission to Le Journal du Dimanche.

Earlier, The Washington Post claimed that discussions on new sanctions against Russia were resumed in the European Union, but there is no consensus among the EU countries on this yet.
