Moldova - Chubashenko: Settlement of the Transnistrian issue crept imperceptibly

Moldova (bbabo.net), - Journalist Dmitry Chubashenko commented on the latest developments in the foreign and domestic policy of Moldova, including the issue of a possible Transnistrian settlement. The journalist recalled that this week Moldova was for the first time accused of participating in NATO military maneuvers, which are directed against Russia.

"Earlier this week, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu accused Moldova of participating, along with Ukraine and Georgia, in NATO military maneuvers against Russia. This is the first time such an accusation has been made by such a high-ranking Moscow official - the head of the military department and permanent member of the Security Council.

In the first half of the week, the recently re-elected head of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, paid a visit to Moscow, "Chubashenko noted.

He also stressed that Russia has never shown interest in the settlement of the Transnistrian issue. Chubashenko believes that a series of recent events shows that movements regarding the issues of the Transnistrian settlement cannot be considered separately from the confrontation between Russia and the West.

"In the second half of the week, the head of the Moldovan government, Natalia Gavrilitsa, said that Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu had no official authority to sign a protocol at the end of October at the Gazprom headquarters in St. Petersburg, on the basis of which Moldova's gas contract with Russia was extended. but already at the new price, which in November increased 2.5 times compared to the old one, up to $ 450 per 1000 cubic meters, and in December, as one of the ANRE directors admitted this week, reached $ 550.

On Friday, President Maia Sandu said she did not know if she had received an official invitation to the summit of CIS heads of state due to be held next week in St. Petersburg. Sandu also expressed hope that a new Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration will be appointed by the end of the year.

On Friday, Krasnoselsky publishes a letter addressed to Sandu, in which he invites her to meet before the end of the year and start discussing a political settlement of the Transnistrian problem.

On Saturday evening, the Russian Foreign Ministry publishes a commentary by its official representative Maria Zakharova, who calls on the Moldovan leadership, read Sandu, to "respond positively" to Krasnoselsky's proposal to meet and discuss the Transnistrian settlement, "Chubashenko recalls.

The journalist is sure that in January the talks between NATO and Russia will certainly touch upon the topic of Moldova.

“Almost 20 years after the failure to sign the so-called“ Kozak Memorandum ”in 2003, Russia showed no interest in the Transnistrian settlement. and good "- this is how Russia's position on Transnistria looked in the last 18 years. And suddenly, on Saturday evening (!) the Russian Foreign Ministry calls on Sandu to meet with Krasnoselsky and start discussing a political settlement with him (!), to which Tiraspol never agreed preferring the tactics of "small steps" and refusing to talk about the issue of political status and final settlement.

All these movements around Moldova and Transnistria cannot be viewed in isolation from the general confrontation between Russia and the West around Ukraine and the security situation in the European region. Moscow, in an ultimatum, demanded from the US and NATO guarantees that NATO would not expand to the east and that the West would not use the former Soviet republics against Russia, as it understood it. Talks between Russia and the United States on these topics are expected in January. After the statements of Shoigu, Krasnoselsky and Zakharova, it is obvious that Russia is also inserting Moldova into the general "cage" of these negotiations, "Chubashenko writes.

At the same time, he notes that "the reaction of the Chisinau leadership testifies to its complete confusion."

“Gavrilitsa states that Spinu had no right to conclude a deal with Gazprom for more than a billion dollars a year, and this, if the“ yellow ”acting Prosecutor General respects the law, already falls under the Criminal Code. that the invitation of Vladimir Putin to the CIS summit seems to have ended up in a spam basket in the computer of some clerk from the MFAEI, "the journalist notes.

He compares Sandu and PAS to a "kindergarten" in which "they don't know what to do with Russia."“Their basic principle is that one should stay away from Russia, the 'Russian bear' should not prevent Moldova from moving towards the European Union, and if you believe Shoigu, then NATO. it is enough that NATO itself will enter Moldova at the very Markulesti airport. The refusal of this government to establish normal relations with Russia is confirmed by the appointment of an outspoken Euro-Atlanticist Russophobe as the new ambassador to Moscow. with the same views, "added Chubashenko.

The journalist believes that Sandu will have to participate in the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, despite the fact that "this government does not need Transnistria." Otherwise it will "look like she doesn't want a settlement."

“But the gravity of Russia is too strong for it to be so easy to completely jump out of its orbit and go into the orbit of the EU and NATO. The history of the gas negotiations confirms this. and money to pay for expensive gas at European market prices, go and negotiate with the Russians. ”Spinu went to Gazprom and reached an agreement. debts, the obligation not to reorganize, at least until 2027, the Moldovagaz company in accordance with the EU requirements, and most importantly, the preservation of the entire scheme of gas supplies to Transnistria, including the region's refusal to pay for the gas received with the further hanging of these debts, with the consent of the government Moldova, to "Moldovagaz".

Two months after this transaction, Gavrilitsa claims that Spynu had no right to conclude it. If this is the case, a criminal case should be instituted against Spynu. But he, too, is not a fool, he probably kept the text messages from Sandu, without whose approval it was impossible to conclude such a deal. Emoji from the president is, of course, not a government decree with the granting of powers, but they are a "kindergarten", for them smileys from a "teacher" are more than a government decree.

Krasnoselsky offers Sandu to start negotiations on a political settlement of the Transnistrian problem. Russia supports this initiative. If Sandu refuses this offer, it will look like she does not want a Transnistrian settlement. It is clear that this government does not need Transnistria, because, in the view of Sandu and PAS, it prevents them from “integrating with Europe”.

But they cannot openly admit it. Their plan is to stay away from Russia, not discuss the Transnistrian settlement at all and move "to Europe." But on Saturday evening of “European” Christmas, the problem of the Transnistrian settlement quietly crept up on Sandu and her government. Russian "Santa Claus" knocked on the window of their "kindergarten". They are not at all happy about such a .jpgt” and they don’t know what to do with it, ”the journalist added.
