Moldovan President Sandu did not receive an invitation to the CIS summit in St. Petersburg

President of Moldova Maia Sandu said on the air of the Pro TV channel that she would not go to the informal summit of the heads of the CIS in St. Petersburg, since she had not received an official invitation.

Earlier it was reported that at the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 28, St. Petersburg will host a traditional informal meeting of the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

“I will not go to the CIS summit, I have already said that I analyze participation in these meetings depending on their agenda and the topics discussed - how important they are for Moldova, we are especially interested in economic aspects, we want to solve problems in this area,” she said President of Moldova. She also added that she had not seen the agenda of the meeting.

Sandu drew attention to the fact that within the framework of the CIS, there is a free trade regime for Moldova with many countries, but not with Russia. According to the president, problems in trade with Russia arose after Chisinau signed a trade agreement with Moscow in 2014. Sandu believes that bilateral dialogue is important in the further relations of the countries, which her country supports at different levels.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky may come to the summit of the leaders of the countries in St. Petersburg, but it is unlikely that he will do so.

An informal summit of the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States is to be held in St. Petersburg on 28 December. The summit is to be attended, among other things, by the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko. The day before, he discussed the details of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
