Ukraine decided to fight mortality by closing maternity wards

The National Health Service of Ukraine announced the possible closure of maternity wards with a low birth rate per year, writes Strana.ua. As noted in the department, the measures will concern maternity hospitals where less than 150 children are born annually and will begin to operate from 2022.

According to the publication, the national service explains this decision as an attempt to reduce the infant mortality rate in the country - according to the department, doctors lose their qualifications if their maternity wards have a low birth rate. At the same time, there are about 70 such institutions, where less than 150 children are born annually, in Ukraine, as for the deaths of newborns, more than 1400 were recorded in 2020.

“We're not talking about maternity hospitals. We are talking about maternity wards in hospitals, ”said the head of the national service Natalya Gusak.

Earlier it was reported that in Ukraine it was proposed to draft children into the army in the event of a war with Russia.
