The future head of the Munich conference accused Putin of glorifying Stalinism

The future head of the Munich Security Conference, ex-adviser to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel Christoph Goisgen said that Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly lives in a world of nostalgia, where international law does not play any role.

“Germany, Europe and the United States must jointly take a clear position against Russia, as was the case after the last Russian invasion. A clear and tough response is required. A soft reaction will be interpreted by Putin as weakness and will only spur his expansionist desires. He lives in his own nostalgic world, in which international law plays no role. He glorifies the Soviet Union and even the Stalinist regime. And also seeks to restore the Russian Empire, reminiscent of the USSR, "- said Goisgen in an interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland.

From the diplomat's point of view, Putin is allegedly looking for an excuse to invade Ukraine, as he believes that the United States and Europe have weakened after the change of government and the inglorious end of the mission in Afghanistan.

“He's also annoyed that the US is focusing on China. This is inconsistent with his image of Russia as a great power. He wants to show that Russia still exists, ”said Goisgen.

Earlier it was reported that Warsaw was afraid that NATO and the EU could surrender Eastern Europe to Russia.
