Russian Ambassador to the USA Antonov: NATO crawl to Ukraine threatens the security of Russia

Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that relations between Russia and NATO are extremely dangerous. This is stated in Antonov's article for Foreign Policy.

"As the alliance" crawls "into the territory of Ukraine, the threat to Russia's security increases sharply, since missile systems with a minimum flight time to our country and other destabilizing weapons can be deployed there," the ambassador said.

According to him, NATO's military activity has significantly intensified in recent years. The diplomat said that about 40 major military exercises are being conducted in the immediate vicinity of Russia, and the United States has significantly increased its strategic flights along the Russian borders, during which they train cruise missile launches against targets in Russia.

On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft security guarantees from the United States and NATO. In the document, the parties undertake to eliminate all existing infrastructure for deploying nuclear weapons outside their territory, to exercise restraint in military planning and during exercises to reduce the risks of possible dangerous situations, and also not to take actions that affect the security of each other.

The Russian side confirmed that negotiations with the United States on security guarantees could take place on January 10. According to media reports, Ukraine and arms control will be discussed. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also said that the delegation for the subsequent negotiations between Russia and NATO will include not only diplomats, but also the military - for a "professional conversation."
