In the Netherlands, a group of activists of the "Committee of European citizens" calls on citizens to put a referendum on the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and EU.

According to the recently adopted law in the Netherlands, citizens can demand an advisory referendum on the recently adopted laws or agreements.

To do this, activists must collect, at least, 10,000 signatures until August 6. Then they will be able to submit a preliminary application to hold a referendum. After the Dutch electoral commission accepts a request, the activists will have to collect another 300,000 signatures during 6 weeks.

The initiators of the idea are ​​discussing the campaign in the blog called "No Style".

Its initiative activists explain that in general they do not agree with how the European Union responds to Russia's involvement in the conflict in the eastern Ukraine. The association agreement is being called "a provocation and a threat to our and Ukrainians' well-being."

If the referendum is organized, and the majority of citizens will vote against the ratification of the document, the government, then, is not obliged to consider the results.

The authorities can leave the decision in force anyway.
