In Ukraine, a ban on the access of Russian ships to the internal waters of the country came into force

In Ukraine, the law "On Inland Water Transport" came into force, which prohibits ships flying the Russian flag to sail on the country's rivers, in particular the Danube, Dnieper and Dniester.

Recall that the law adopted in December 2020, as reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, defines the legal, economic and organizational framework for the country's inland waterway transport. The explanation to this document said that it "promotes the integration of inland waterways into an intermodal logistics scheme, which will allow Ukraine to strengthen its competitive position in the transport system of the EU member states." This means that Ukraine has implemented in its legislation the basic requirements of EU directives and regulations - in accordance with the Association Agreement with the EU.

What went unnoticed then was that the document, among other things, spelled out the procedure for access to inland waters for cargo ships flying the flags of all countries, except for the "aggressor countries", which was declared by the Russian Federation back in 2015 by the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.

The internal river waterways according to the legislation of Ukraine include the Dniester, Danube, Dnieper and a number of others.
