The fire broke out late in the evening on 2 January. The causes of the fire are still unknown.

- Upon the arrival of the first divisions, it was established that combustion was taking place inside the domed premises of the church. The roof of the building was also affected by the fire. The employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations managed to localize the fire in the shortest possible time and prevent the transfer of fire to neighboring buildings, - said in an official message on the page of the regional branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Vkontakte.

The temple was seriously damaged and it is not yet known whether it is possible to restore it.

The church in Podgorodnaya Pokrovka was erected in 1861, it operated until 1930, after which a grain storage was arranged there, and then it was completely closed. Services in the Intercession Church resumed 30 years ago.
