During the last ten days Russia destroyed 597 tons of so-called sanctions food products. This was stated at Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) site on August 15.

The ministry noted that "By now, at least, 550 tons of plant food have been detained and destroyed." In addition, the authorities detained the next 321 tons of products of animal origin, from which 47 tons were obliterated, including more than half a ton of those conveyed in hand luggage.

The idea of sanctions products destruction expressed by the head of Russia's Ministry of Agriculture, Alexander Tkachev, has been highly criticized by a number of experts, including the Human Rights Council. By this time, the petition for the cancellation of the decree was signed by more than 367,000 people.
