How Polish diplomats helped their citizen escape from Belarus

If you follow the recommendations of the French diplomat Talleyrand that the language was given to them in order to hide their thoughts, then the attempts of the Polish consulate general in Brest to organize an attempt to escape from Belarus of their compatriot suspected of a fatal accident become logical.

This dramatic incident became known from the information on January 5 by the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Anatoly Glaz, who explained that “a citizen of a neighboring country committed an accident in which two Belarusian girls were killed”. Earlier, the department of the Investigative Committee for the Brest region spoke about this incident and the criminal case initiated on its fact.

The fact is that a Polish citizen born in 1999, together with his father, entered the Brest checkpoint on the evening of January 3 on a regular bus between St. Petersburg and Warsaw. But during the border control, it was found that the young man was restricted from leaving the Republic of Belarus. The foreigner himself stated that he allegedly did not know about the reason for this prohibition. And later it turned out that he is a suspect in a criminal case on the fact of an accident with a fatal outcome.

In this regard, his right to leave the Republic of Belarus was temporarily restricted. “However, on January 3, in order to avoid responsibility, this citizen tried to leave the country and hide in Poland, but was detained by border guards,” the diplomat explained.

Apparently, feeling the full measure of possible responsibility, the young man did not hide the fact that the staff of the Polish consulate in Belarus helped him with his departure to his homeland. “They bought him a ticket to his place of residence in Poland, brought him to the bus station and escorted him to the bus,” confirmed the official representative of the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

Moreover, the Foreign Ministry clarified, they did it deliberately, understanding both the validity of the restrictions on leaving for the suspect, and the fact that two people died as a result of an accident. the subsequent international search in connection with an accident that resulted in the death of people, Glaz stated, stressing that such actions of the consulate general directly violate the provisions of the Vienna Conventions on diplomatic and consular relations and violate the legislation of the Republic of Belarus.

“They also defy understanding from the point of view of the high rank of consul or diplomat. In fact, this is an official who is called upon to be an example of the rule of law and who has the right, for example, to visit closed or penitentiary institutions. And this official himself deliberately violates the law. that in this case we are talking about the death of people, "- added Glaz.

True, the Foreign Ministry expressed the hope that this incident is an isolated incident that does not characterize the work of the Polish Foreign Ministry as a whole. “At the same time, we do not see an opportunity to continue the work of this consular officer on the territory of Belarus. We will inform our foreign partners about the incident. We hope that the Polish colleagues will draw appropriate conclusions,” the diplomat concluded.
