The State Duma commented on the situation in Kazakhstan

The aggravation of the situation in Kazakhstan was a consequence of the mistakes of the country's leadership. This opinion was expressed in a conversation with the Interfax agency by the chairman of the State Duma committee for CIS affairs Leonid Kalashnikov.

“This situation was the result of a number of mistakes made by the leadership of Kazakhstan. I have no doubt about it. It is quite obvious that it was impossible to raise prices to such a level, ”Kalashnikov said.

According to him, the "chaos" taking place in the country can be corrected if the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, together with the government "show not only firmness, but also take some exhaustive measures, take control of the overall economic situation, will adjust prices in the interests of the people. " Also, he believes, it is necessary "to curb the appetites of the oligarchs, who are hiding there, including behind some politicians."

Tokayev’s decision to head the Security Council of Kazakhstan, Kalashnikov believes, has nothing to do with ex-President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who held this post.

“Much more serious is what threatens the state, and this chaos should have been calmed by Nazarbayev, a state man, and in this situation, he will understand and will not put his own interests higher,” summed up the chairman of the State Duma committee on CIS affairs.

In Kazakhstan, protests continue, which began on January 2 in the city of Zhanaozen, Mangistau region, after the price for a liter of liquefied gas increased to 120 tenge (about 21 rubles). Before that, the price for a liter of gas was 60 tenge. Two days later, clashes between protesters and the police and the military began in Almaty and a number of other cities. Clashes also took place in Aktobe, Taraz, Aktau and other settlements.

The official representative of the UN Secretary General Stefan Dujarrick said that the organization is concerned about the situation in the republic, calling for restraint and dialogue.
