CTAC: North Korea will not participate in the Beijing Olympics

The DPRK refused to participate in the Beijing Olympics due to the actions of hostile forces and the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the Central Telegraph Agency of Korea (CTAC).

In a letter sent to the organizing committee of the Games in Beijing, it is noted that the DPRK will fully support the Chinese comrades in their work on holding "a magnificent and wonderful Olympic Festival." The North Korean authorities also rejected US actions aimed at disrupting the successful opening of the Games. According to Pyongyang, these actions offend the spirit of the Olympic Charter.

Earlier, the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, said that the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, China, would be held as planned, despite the markedly aggravated epidemiological situation in the world in recent days. The Winter Olympics in Beijing is scheduled to take place from 2 to 20 February 2022. On February 2, the matches of the preliminary round of the curling tournament will take place, on February 3 - the curling, ice hockey and figure skating competitions, and on the 4th the opening ceremony of the Games will take place. The first sets of awards will be raffled off on February 5th.
