Nikolai Deryabin, chief of staff of the Club of Military Leaders of the Russian Federation, said that Anatoly Kvashnin died on January 7 from COVID-19.

It is known that Anatoly Kvashnin fought the coronavirus for a month, an operation was even scheduled, but on the night of January 7, a heart attack occurred and he died.

Anatoly Vasilyevich Kvashnin was born on August 15, 1946 in Ufa into a military family. In 1969 he graduated from the auto-tractor faculty and the military department of the Kurgan Machine-Building Institute. After graduation, he went to serve in the army as a so-called "two-year" for an officer's position - he became a lieutenant engineer, commanded a tank platoon of the 201st motorized rifle division of the Turkestan military district in Dushanbe.

In 1971, he decided to extend his service and was enlisted in the military personnel, took the post of deputy commander of a tank company for technical matters.

He served successfully and in 1976 graduated from the Military Academy of Armored Forces named after Marshal R. Ya. Malinovsky.

In 1976 he was appointed chief of staff - deputy commander of a tank regiment. In October 1977, Anatoly Kvashnin was awarded the military rank "major" ahead of schedule for his distinction in service. In August 1978 he became commander of a tank regiment, and in February 1981 he was promoted to the Central Group of Forces, to Czechoslovakia, where he was appointed chief of staff - deputy commander of the 31st Panzer Division of the 28th Army Corps.

In June 1982, Colonel Kvashnin was already appointed to the Central Asian Military District as commander of the 78th Panzer Division - in the city of Ayaguz, Semipalatinsk region of the Kazakh SSR. In October 1984 he was promoted to Major General.

And in 1989 he graduated with honors from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces.

He was appointed to the Belarusian Military District as first deputy commander of the 28th Army in Grodno. From May to August 1992 he commanded the 7th Panzer Army in Borisov. In August 1992, Anatoly Kvashnin was transferred to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, where he first became Deputy Head of the Main Operations Directorate, and in February 1993 - First Deputy Head of the same Directorate.

In December 1994, Lieutenant General Kvashnin headed the United Group of Forces in the Chechen Republic, and in February 1995, with the rank of Colonel General, was appointed Commander of the North Caucasian Military District. At the same time, he simultaneously led the group of troops in Chechnya.

And now the peak of his military career - from May 1997 to July 2004, Anatoly Kvashnin was Chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces - First Deputy Minister of Defense. Recall that in 1997-2001 the Ministry of Defense was headed by Igor Sergeev, in 2001-2007 - by Sergei Ivanov.

In November 1997, Anatoly Kvashnin was awarded the rank of General of the Army. Now it is the highest military rank in Russia.

In 1999, Kvashnin led military operations in Dagestan against bandit formations invading from Chechnya. By a closed decree of President Boris Yeltsin of October 27, 1999, Anatoly Kvashnin was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the Golden Star medal. As stated in the award form - "for the successful completion of assignments to destroy illegal armed formations in the North Caucasus region and for the courage and heroism shown at the same time."

In addition, in 1999 he took part in planning the operation of a battalion of the Russian Airborne Forces to take control of Splatina airport in Kosovo - we are talking about the famous march of our paratroopers to Pristina. The purpose of the operation was to prevent the invasion of NATO ground forces into Kosovo.

From June 2000 to 2004, he was simultaneously a member of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, and from May 2001 - a member of the State Commission on Chemical Disarmament.

In July 2004, Anatoly Kvashnin was relieved of his post as chief of the General Staff and was at the disposal of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov. In September of the same year, he was transferred to the reserve.

By that time, Anatoly Kvashnin was a candidate of sociological sciences (1997), a doctor of military sciences (2004), a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences (2000).

Anatoly Kvashnin did not stay idle. In September 2004, by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, he was appointed Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Siberian Federal District. In December 2004, Anatoly Kvashnin was awarded the rank of 1st class acting state adviser of the Russian Federation. He was a member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the implementation of priority national projects and demographic policy.

In September 2010, he was relieved of his post as presidential envoy, and on August 15, 2011, he resigned. He lived in Novosibirsk.Here is a list of his awards.
