NATO Foreign Ministers Issue a Statement Following the Emergency Conference

The US Permanent Mission to NATO announced on Twitter that on the eve of the NATO-Russia Council, the foreign ministers of the alliance countries called for the observance of diplomatic principles in relations with Moscow.

“The ministers stressed the need for diplomacy, dialogue and de-escalation,” the permanent mission said following an emergency video conference of the heads of the NATO countries' foreign affairs agencies.

The heads of the ministries, according to the publication of the US Permanent Mission, "showed unity" in response to the "aggressive" actions of Russia against Ukraine.

Earlier it became known that NATO foreign ministers held an emergency videoconference to develop a common position for negotiations with Russia on European security guarantees.

On December 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry handed over to the American side drafts of an agreement between Russia and the United States on security guarantees and an agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation and the NATO member states. The document, in particular, states that the United States should not create military bases in the territories of the former USSR countries that are not NATO members.
