Russia - Mountain brigade of the Southern Military District received more than 50 sets of climbing equipment

Russia (bbabo.net), - Servicemen of the mountain motorized rifle brigade of the Southern Military District, stationed in Karachay-Cherkessia, received more than 50 sets of modern mountaineering equipment.

Colonel Vadim Astafiev, head of the press service of the Southern Military District, said that each set of special equipment includes over 80 items. These are snowshoes, ice axes, mountain and rock hammers, harnesses, ropes, climbing tents, sleeping bags, alpine skis, suits, boots, backpacks and other equipment necessary to perform tasks in difficult mountainous terrain.

"Servicemen of the mountain division of the Southern Military District regularly hone their skills in exercises in the mountains of the North Caucasus, and also carry out reconnaissance and search tasks in the highlands," Astafyev said.

Earlier it was reported that located in the village of Storozhevoy at an altitude of more than 2 thousand meters above sea level, this mountain motorized rifle brigade is known for having the only pack transport platoon in the Russian army. There, the military uses horses specially trained for such a service.

To perform tasks in the mountains, very hardy horses of the Karachai breed were selected. They are perfectly oriented on the terrain. They are able to make long treks along rocks and mountain paths in bundles. With their help, mountain shooters deliver certain types of weapons, ammunition, foodstuffs, equipment, and other supplies necessary for the military to hard-to-reach places. In a day, one bunch of four horses is capable of carrying up to 250 kilograms of payload over the mountains.

But this, of course, does not change the special requirements for the soldiers and officers of the brigade. All of them are good climbers and know how to operate in the mountains. To carry out various tasks there, mountain motorized riflemen are provided with special equipment.
