In Brazil, part of the rock collapsed on boats carrying tourists. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in a canyon near the city of Capitoliu (state of Minas Gerais).

The rock collapsed into four boats, which at the time of the tragedy were at least 34 people. Two ships sank. 10 people were killed, TASS reports, citing CNN Brazil.

According to rescuers, all the victims were on the same boat. Another 23 people were injured of varying severity. The search operation continues, in which 50 rescuers and 11 divers are involved.

According to the spokesman for the rescue service of the state of Minas Gerais, Pedro Aijara, the collapse of the heavily eroded rocks provoked heavy rainfall in the region. The possibility of further collapse is not excluded.

Capitolio is a popular holiday destination. There are picturesque canyons near the city, where water tourism is developed. In connection with the tragedy, the city hall imposed a ban on water recreation.
