The Kazakh authorities faced a hybrid terrorist attack. State Secretary of Kazakhstan Yerlan Karin stated this on the air of the republican TV channel Khabar 24, noting that the ultimate goal of this attack was general destabilization and, possibly, a coup.

The secretary of state also said that there was a conspiracy of some internal and certain external forces, since the participants in the attack terrorist groups were both foreigners and citizens of Kazakhstan.

Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, said that at least six waves of terrorist attacks had been carried out on Almaty. He emphasized that the bandits were well trained and organized, their actions were coordinated from the outside, many did not speak Kazakh. According to the Russian Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, all democratic forces in the world should help the Kazakh authorities recover from the recent turmoil, and not try to undermine the situation in the country even more. He also stressed that the work of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent has demonstrated its effectiveness, focus on restoring peace and constitutional order.
