Moldova - Ceban on new strains of COVID-19 in Chisinau:

Moldova (bbabo.net), - The epidemiological situation and measures to be taken to combat the new wave of COVID-19, including the Omicron strain, will be discussed at the meeting of the Emergency Commission on Public Health of the Chisinau municipality.

The mayor general of the capital, Ion Ceban, stated this, noting that the situation requires immediate intervention, because the greatest pressure will again be on the health care system of Chisinau.

The Ministry of Health is silent. It turns out that we do not have the Omicron strain in Moldova ... We will not even find it because of the attitude of officials from the ministry, if sequencing when new strains are found is done “once a year for Easter”! WHO donated a sequencer worth several hundred thousand euros to the ministry, which has been gathering dust idle for about 3 months. During all this time, they only twice carried out sequencing to identify the dominant strains in Moldova - and then only on a few samples. Our specialists and WHO experts tell us that sequencing tests must be done daily: dozens of samples must be taken all over the country, ”the mayor said.

Also, according to him, it is unacceptable that the Ministry of Health does nothing to increase testing opportunities in state laboratories - so, in fact, the population is forced to go to private laboratories and pay at least twice as much for a PCR test.

We will plan and take measures at the municipal level, because, unfortunately, there is no one to work with at the central level. The government and the Ministry of Health have shown that they are incapacitated. There is already an increase in the number of hospitalizations of patients with COVID-19, we have a real threat of the spread of the Omicron strain among the population, - said Cheban.

He also said that the municipality will mobilize all efforts and resources to achieve a vaccination rate in Chisinau of 70% by April 1, 2022.
