EU calls on Kazakh authorities to respect human rights

The European Union calls on the Kazakh authorities to fulfill their obligations in the field of ensuring human rights, said the spokesman for the foreign policy service of the association, Peter Stano, in a commentary to Lente.ru.

“This includes respecting human rights and fundamental freedoms of its citizens, in particular, freedom of assembly, freedom of expression and the media,” Stano said.

According to him, the European Union also called on the Kazakh authorities to prevent further escalation of the situation in the country. As Stano clarified, it is important to avoid any incitement to violence, to exercise restraint and not "use the riot for other purposes."

The European Union recalled that they are ready to provide their assistance in the peaceful settlement of the crisis in Kazakhstan.

Earlier, Kazakhstan said that the West "infuriated" the introduction of CSTO peacekeepers into the country.
