Russian Tesla owners asked Elon Musk to open a representative office in the country

Tesla's Russian owners recorded a video message to Elon Musk. They asked the head of the company to open a Tesla office in Russia so that they could service cars in official dealerships. Car owners complain that at present, parts have to be ordered from the United States, and repairs may take six months.

The video was posted on the Go Electro YouTube channel. Tesla owners gathered on January 8 in Moscow at the Crocus City parking lot. At the end of the call, they put on a light show of 30 Tesla, which included Plaid S, X, Y and 3.

The author of the Go Electro channel Dmitry Sakal noted that the community had previously tried to contact Tesla before, but the attempts were not so large-scale and went unnoticed. “Now we are trying to actively spam mail and all social networks of the company in order to reach them,” he said.

Having an official dealership will make it easier to acquire Tesla, Sakal said. At present in Russia this is only possible through intermediaries. So, in October 2021, the service for buying and selling cars "SberAuto" officially began to offer Russian users Tesla electric vehicles.

Tesla owners expect that after the appearance of the representative office, prices for hull insurance will decrease, and the company itself will develop a network of Supercharger charging stations. This would make long-distance travel easier.

The authors of the initiative also created a discussion on Reddit.

In July, Tesla released an update for its electric vehicles, which added support for three new languages: Russian, Hungarian and Romanian.

In May, Elon Musk spoke via video link at the Russian forum "New Knowledge". Then he promised that Tesla could soon officially enter the Russian market. The company hopes to open representative offices in the Russian Federation, and is also considering the construction of a plant in the country.

In 2021, the sales of new electric vehicles in Russia increased 5 to 5 times compared to the same indicators of the previous year. Used electric vehicle sales climbed 58%. The most popular electric car in the Russian Federation is the Nissan Leaf; its sales account for 74% of all purchased electric cars. The share of Tesla and other automakers is 11% and 15%, respectively.
