On January 20, we invite you to the VK Tech Talks · Sub online meetup. The developers of VKontakte and VK Video will tell you about auto subtitles, speech recognition and decoding in videos.

This is an online meeting, the broadcast will be held in the VK Team VK community. We start at 18:00 Moscow time. We are waiting for both experienced specialists and novice developers. Register to ask the speakers questions and take part in the quiz.

18:05 - Ivan Samsonov, "Evolution in VKontakte speech transcript: why, and most importantly, why?"

It is not always convenient to watch a video with sound - sometimes it is easier to read the subtitles and understand the meaning of what is happening. We have ASR technology, which perfectly decodes audio messages, but you can't just take it and apply it to video.

Ivan will tell you what technological and product difficulties the developers overcame:

- how you decided that subtitles in the video are necessary;

- how the ASR of VKontakte was changed;

- what is a "speech domain".

You will learn how ASR works inside VKontakte and what problems the developers have encountered, adapting it to create auto-subtitles for records of any length.

19:30 - Philip Malkovsky, "Infrastructure for automatic generation of subtitles in VK Video"

Philip will talk about how we adapted the existing VKontakte speech recognition pipeline to work in the VK Video infrastructure, introduced new components and optimized the resulting solution.

At the end of the meeting, we will hold a thematic quiz and give away prizes. We will save the recording of the broadcast in the VK Team community.
