TSMC's earnings topped $6 billion last quarter

TSMC has reported for the fourth quarter of 2021. This quarter turned out to be a record one for a contract manufacturer of semiconductor products. Net profit amounted to $6.01 billion, up 16.4% year-on-year.

Exactly half of the company's revenue comes from the production of products according to the standards of 7 and 5 nm. A quarter of all revenue comes from 16nm and 28nm process technology. The remaining quarter is provided in total by all other "mature" technical processes. It is significant that compared to 2020, the contribution of 5nm products increased from 8% to 19%, while the size of all other segments decreased or remained the same.

If we talk about markets, orders for the production of chips for smartphones bring in the most. However, growth in this segment was only 8%. By comparison, the IoT segment grew by 21%, HPC by 34%, and the largest growth of 51% was recorded in the automotive IC segment.

The company announced that it intends to increase capex to at least $40-44 billion this year, up from $30 billion in 2021.
