Ukraine launched its first satellite in 10 years with the help of SpaceX

The Ukrainian satellite Sich-2-30 was launched along with 104 others on a SpaceX Falcon 9 launch vehicle. This is the first launch of a Ukrainian satellite in almost 11 years.

Prior to that, Ukraine sent the Sich-2 satellite into orbit in August 2011 using the Dnepr-1 launch vehicle.

The launch of Sich-2-30 cost the Ukrainian Goskosmos almost $2 million. This amount includes the installation of a satellite on a rocket, launch, and a system for separating the satellite from the rocket.

Ukraine sent the Sich-2-30 to the US in December. It was originally scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral on January 10, 2022. "Sich-2-30" was assembled in Yuzhnoye Design Bureau to 85% readiness back in 2013. Initially, its launch was scheduled for 2015, but it was postponed several times.

The satellite will monitor the use of land, vegetation, forest and water resources, as well as the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters. It will also allow receiving data on the creation of engineering structures, the movement of military equipment and ships. It is planned that by 2025 a group of eight Ukrainian satellites will be created in orbit.

In December 2021, SpaceX managed two successful Falcon 9 launches and returns in one day. The interval between starts was 15 hours 17 minutes, which was a record. During the first flight, the launch vehicle delivered 52 Internet satellites of the Starlink system into Earth orbit, and during the second flight, the Turkish telecommunications satellite Turksat 5B.
