Nestlé announced the transition of the company's Russian factories to electricity from renewable sources

Nestlé has said its factories will switch to electricity from renewable sources. In Russia, the company's production sites are located in 6 regions - Kaluga, Vologda, Vladimir, Samara regions, Krasnodar and Perm regions; in the future, it is planned to open a plant in the Novosibirsk region.

In total, Nestlé has 800 of its production sites, offices and warehouse centers around the world, which it intends to completely convert to renewable energy by 2025. By 2050, the company expects to achieve zero carbon emissions.

According to preliminary estimates by Nestlé, due to the transition of all factories in Russia to renewable energy sources, CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will decrease by more than 80 thousand tons per year. Wind farms will be used as a "green" alternative. One of the factories, Nestle Purina PetCare in Vorsino, Kaluga Region, has already switched to using electricity from renewable sources. In 2020, this made it possible to reduce the level of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 20.5 thousand tons.

Nestlé is also investing in energy efficiency projects to reduce overall energy consumption. In addition, the company notes that, as part of the fight against climate change, it improves the range and packaging of products, adheres to the principles of a circular economy in production, and supports the practices of regenerative agriculture.

Nestlé signed the UN document Business Ambition for 1.5°C’ in December 2020 and presented a plan to combat climate change. In September 2021, Nestlé announced its plans to support and accelerate the transition to a food system based on the principles of recovery and aimed at protecting the environment.
