Canon EOS R5 is Canon's first full-frame camera to support 8K RAW internal movie recording

As scheduled, Canon today unveiled the EOS R5 C. According to the manufacturer, this is the first camera in the Cinema EOS family to support 8K RAW internal video recording at 30 fps. When working from an external power source, the frame rate rises to 60 fps. The built-in active cooling system allows you to shoot at 8K resolution for several hours in a row. Capable of shooting 4K video at frame rates up to 120 fps.

The camera is equipped with a full-frame image sensor with a resolution of 45 megapixels and a DIGIC X processor. The burst speed reaches 20 fps. The maximum ISO value is ISO 51200. Capable of shooting in HEIF format with 10-bit color depth and HDR. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus system provides eye AF, subject detection and tracking.

The camera supports internal recording in Cinema RAW Light format with high definition, 12-bit color depth, wide dynamic range and wide color gamut. Along with this format, the EOS R5 C supports Canon's XF-AVC 10bit format with a bit rate of 810Mbps and flexible MP4 settings. Depending on your shooting requirements and production process, you can shoot in one of three new RAW formats: RAW HQ (high quality), RAW ST (standard quality), and RAW LT (lite file). The camera is equipped with CFexpress 2.0 Type B and UHS-II SD slots, as well as a multi-function jack for connecting and powering shooting accessories, including the Canon DM-E1D stereo microphone, Canon Speedlight 470EX-AI flash, and TASCAM CA-XLR2d XLR microphone adapter. There is also a time code I/O connector for integration with professional multi-camera systems. The camera features electronic image stabilization, HDR shooting with PQ and HLG transcoding, and Canon Log 3 gamma.

The manufacturer notes that the EOS R5 C camera has two separate user interfaces: for photography and video shooting, which reproduce the interfaces of the EOS R and Cinema EOS systems, respectively. Among the controls are a three-position control dial that allows you to switch between modes and change settings, and 13 programmable buttons. The camera is equipped with a 0.5-inch OLED electronic viewfinder with a high resolution of 5.76 million dots, as well as a 3.2-inch tilting LCD.

The camera is only 680 g. The magnesium alloy body provides protection against mechanical impacts, dust and moisture.

The EOS R5C will go on sale in March for $4,499.

In addition, Canon has announced the release of a firmware update for the EOS C70. It gives this camera support for shooting in Cinema RAW Light format with a color depth of 12 bits.
