The first tests of the Radeon RX 6500 XT video card showed that for $400 you can buy an analogue of the RX 570

According to TechPowerUp, the first tests of the Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card with 4 GB of GDDR6 VRAM and 16 MB of fast Infinity Cache showed that for $ 400 you can buy a similar RX 570 of 2017. But a significant advance of the GTX 1650, as promised by AMD, is not observed in many games.

TechPowerUp experts tested the performance of the ASUS RX 6500 XT TUF Gaming graphics card on a test PC with AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and found that in Full HD or WQHD resolution, the RX 6500 XT at the highest graphics settings (Ultra settings) is not inferior to the RX 570 and outperforms the GTX in some games 1650 and even GTX 1060 6GB, but only for a few FPS.

Previously, experts suggested that AMD deliberately degraded the technical characteristics of the new budget GPU to make it less attractive to miners, but this could also affect the performance of the video card in modern games.

AMD promised at the presentation of the Radeon RX 6500 XT that the new card will be faster than the Radeon RX 570 and GeForce GTX 1650.

The card has full DirectX 12 Ultimate API support, including ray tracing. TechPowerUp experts tested ray tracing on the Radeon RX 6500 XT and saw a significant drop in performance. For example, enabling ray tracing effects in Resident Evil Village 1080p dropped FPS from a reasonable 81 FPS to 7.9 FPS, which is a 90% loss. Other games are similarly affected: Watch Dogs Legion: -65%, Deathloop: -68%, Cyberpunk -75%. Bottom line: The Radeon RX 6500 XT really doesn't have the horsepower for the ray tracing option.

TechPowerUp experts summed up that, on average, across all performance tests, the Radeon RX 6500 XT with a small buffer did not impress them at all. Even at 1080p, about half of the games we tested didn't reach 60fps FPS. In their opinion, it is better to buy a game console instead of such a card and get much more performance there, and not suffer from blurry textures and blocky geometry at a blocked 30 Hz.

According to TechPowerUp, the RX 6500 XT will be hard to sell, and various entry-level NVIDIA cards such as the GTX 1650, 1650 Super, 1660, 1660 Super, and 1660 Ti will still be the best choice.

The Radeon RX 6500 XT video card is based on the Navi 24 XL video chip (based on the RDNA2 architecture). This is AMD's first 6nm desktop graphics processor. The graphics card has 16 compute units and 1024 stream processors. The operating frequency of the GPU in game mode is 2610 MHz, in Boost mode the card accelerates to 2815 MHz. The width of the video memory bus is 64 bits.

The card supports 4 lanes of PCIe Gen4 interface. It does not support AV1 decoder and H265/HEVC and 4K H264 encoders. The Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card has two external ports - HDMI (2.1 VRR and FRL) and DisplayPort (1.4 with DSC). The power consumption of the Radeon RX 6500 XT is 107W.

Earlier, the Videocardz portal reported that retailers had decided on starting prices for the Radeon RX 6500 XT - from $390, which is 2 times more than the recommended price. In Russia, the start of sales of the Radeon RX 6500 XT in DNS stores will take place on February 20, 2022. The site did not announce the cost of the cards. At least GIGABYTE AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT EAGLE [GV-R65XTEAGLE-4GD] will be available for sale.
