For the first time in history, a patient received two pig kidney transplants.

In the United States, for the first time in history, two pig kidneys were transplanted to a person at once. Before transplantation, the animal's genome was corrected, areas that cause rejection by the human immune system were removed. This is reported by the American Journal of Transplantation.

Human immunity, which rejects foreign organs, has long been one of the main problems of transplantology. It was possible to solve the problem at the beginning of the last decade - geneticists learned how to remove the genes that are responsible for the operation of the "friend or foe" recognition system.

First, they managed to transplant the heart of a pig to a baboon, and then to a terminally ill person.

Now it turned out to transplant two pig kidneys at once to a 57-year-old man with a dead brain.

He fell into a coma, but before that he managed to donate his body and organs for the benefit of science. The scientists also obtained the consent of his relatives to conduct an experimental operation.

The operation was successful. Both organs took root and already half an hour after the surgical operation they began to cleanse the blood of toxins.

Earlier it was reported that in the United States for the first time successfully transplanted the heart of a pig.
