Wordle win stats not fully transferred after game transfer

After the transfer of the popular online puzzle game Wordle, which was acquired by The New York Times, to a new address (https://www.nytimes.com/games/wordle/index.html), many players' statistics were not completely transferred.

The essence of the game is that you need to guess the hidden word in six attempts. After each attempt, the letters of the entered word are highlighted in a certain color: yellow (if the letter is in the hidden word, but is in the wrong place), green (if the letter is present and placed correctly) or gray (if there is no such letter).

The NYT FAQ page states that game statistics (including series) were automatically transferred. Those who complain that their statistics are not saved are advised to make sure that the game is opened on the same device and in the same browser that was previously used, since game data is stored locally in the browser.

However, Verge has found that this is not the case. Many saw a blank page instead of their statistics.

The NYT later said it was aware of the game reset and was investigating.

Some have managed to save statistics by going to the old URL (www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/) from where they were redirected to the new version. And individual users can still access Wordle at the old address.

The New York Times bought the puzzle a few weeks ago. The publication promised that "initially" the game will remain free for everyone. The takeover of The Times brought several changes to the game. The sans-serif name has now been replaced with a font very similar to the style of the new owners. There is also a new menu in the left corner that gives access to other NYT games.

Earlier, a Russian developer adapted Wordle for a Russian-speaking audience.
