Details about Android 13: a new sweet name, dynamic themes and more

This week, Google released the first developer preview of Android 13, which contains many changes based on the features introduced in Android 12.

Last year, the first rumors surfaced that Android 13 would be codenamed Tiramisu. Now the information has been fully confirmed. After the release of Android 9 Pie, Google decided to stop using dessert names for various versions of Android. However, the search giant returned to this practice with Android 11 Red Velvet Cake and Android 12 Snow Cone.

As for the highlights of Android 13, which are known at the moment: the new operating system will return dynamic themes, but with better integration with third-party applications. The company is also improving how Android 13 secures data and grants permissions.

The new photo picker will allow users to share photos and videos in local storage as well as in the Google cloud taken using a standalone application, without the application needing permission for all photos. This feature will not be limited to Android 13 and will come to devices running Android 11 and above.

The final version of Android 13 should be released in August-September this year.
