Named the reason for the limited life cycle of smartphones

The smartphone update cycle averages two years, and during this time the gadget approaches the threshold of “natural aging” – the battery is quickly discharged, there is not enough RAM, applications refuse to update. Sergei Zhitinets, General Director of the advertising agency Motive agency & production, spoke about this in an interview with.

“Smartphones of the new generation have a powerful processor, a large screen, optics that are good for their task - hence the requirements for processors increase. All functions and applications require a high-capacity battery to run quickly. By increasing the battery power, manufacturers run the risk of releasing a smartphone much heavier and bulkier, which is clearly not to the liking of users. Therefore, the correct battery life is limited to two years, after which the operational properties of the smartphone are reduced, ”said Zhytinets.

The expert also believes that the need to update gadgets also arises due to the marketing tricks of manufacturers. Flagship devices have attractive features - 5G, wireless charging, updated camera, new features that users want to test.

“If earlier we could replace the battery and use a smartphone for at least another year, today, with the rapid development of software, replacing the battery is not enough – programs and applications simply will not work in older models. For the same reason, it is not economically viable to repair a broken machine. It is more profitable to buy a new smartphone than to update and repair an old one,” Zhytinets concluded.
