The Russian representative office of the BMW Group announced the decision regarding local production at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad.

Avtotor has been a partner of BMW since 1999. The current contract expires at the end of March 2022. According to the press service, the companies signed a contract for the production and supply of cars until 2028.

The continuation of cooperation involves the production of the most popular BMW models on the Russian market at Avtotor's facilities: BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7 and BMW 5 Series. Within the framework of cooperation, production will be carried out, including operations for welding, painting and final assembly of cars.

Under the current agreement, BMW vehicles were produced using SKD technology (SKD). The new contract provides for full-cycle production. The volume of investments is at least 32 billion rubles.
