After Wordle's entry into the New York Times, swear filters appeared in the game

The New York Times, which recently acquired Wordle puzzle game, has banned the use of swear words in the game. True, while the filter only works with some rude words.

So, the game no longer accepts words like bitch ("bitch") and whore ("whore") as guesses. If you try to use any of these words, the game will report that they are not on the list. This moderation is understandable, given that Wordle is now officially a New York Times product. The newspaper rarely publishes profanity, and the company's other word puzzle, Spelling Bee, does not use swear words either.

The NYT notes that not all rudeness has yet been filtered; this "black list" will be replenished gradually.

“Offensive words will be excluded from possible guesswork,” a spokesman for the New York Times told Polygon. “Because we have just begun porting Wordle to The Times, we are still in the process of removing these words from the in-game vocabulary.”

The New York Times acquired Wordle from creator Josh Wardle in late January. The author of the game did not disclose the amount of the deal, but explained that it is in the lower range of seven figures.
