The aggregator for the sale and rental of real estate CIAN will edit ads that contain signs of discrimination against people on the basis of race, nationality, citizenship, skin color, religion or ethnicity. Changes to the service policy will take effect on February 1 next year.
The company declares that its admins will independently change the content of ads that can be regarded as intolerable. This text should not include both direct and indirect discrimination, the CIAN reported.
At the moment, the service invites users to edit such ads, and from February 2022 it will make edits at its own discretion.
At the end of last month, the online community Flats for friends banned discriminatory advertisements in rental housing. However, the company introduced a paid option that hides from some users publications about renting real estate with intolerable content.
Participants of the second hackathon of the Novaya Gazeta newspaper in 2019 found that Moscow is leading in the number of discriminatory ads in comparison with regional markets. The researchers found that the owners of Slavic appearance and names have the opportunity to save on rent, since the replica "only for the Slavs" is more common in ads with an offer for 20-40 thousand rubles than in those that are more expensive than 40 thousand rubles.

In October, the FAS refused Avito permission to acquire CIAN. The regulator considered that this transaction will lead to restriction of competition in the market.
